This is just a quick post to say thank you to all of the healthcare professionals, doctors, nurses, porters, ambulance staff, response nurses and doctors who work tirelessly to make sure that we are safe and well. They work 12, 14 18 hour shifts to manage the influx of inbound emergencies and day to day health visits, enquiries and other routine activities.
Last night, we thought we had a medical emergency (details of which I won’t go into), however, the speed, humour, professionalism and sensitivity at which all the personnel involved dealt with the situation, meant that all is well now.
I just flicked open my favourite magazine and was overcome with annoyance at some of the gormless faces staring back at me. Famous and rich why? Because they sell products for companies? Famous because they were on a TV show or because they post ‘selfies’ on a social media site and get lots of attention from followers?
Why aren’t our medical services being held up in the same regard? Why aren’t they better paid, supported and revered?
I’m not ignorant about the consumerist, media-led society in which we live and it would be hypocritical of me to pretend that I don’t like looking at those ‘gormless’ faces from time to time BUT I wish that things were a bit different.
